THREE NEW SPECIES OF UNCIUMA FROM BIRDS IN FU JIAN PROVINCE, WITH NOTES ON THE GENUS UNCIUNIA SKRJABIN (CESTODA)

In a survey of helminths of birds from Pujian,more than one hundred of cestodes of the genus Unciunia were collected from Parus major commixtus Swinhoe,during the years of 1957-1964.All the specimens were identified to belong to one species of Unciunia,and appear to be new to science for which the author proposes the name Uneiunia sinensis sp.nov.At the same time,twelve specimens of Unciunia were collected from Fako tinnunculus saturatus (Blyth),and three specimens of the same genus were collected from Hypsipetes flavalus campennit (Seebohm).All these specimens are also considered as new to science after detailed inorhpological comparisons have been made.The author proposes the name V.fdconis sp.nov.for the species from Fako iinnuneulus satvratut and U.kypsipetti sp.nov.for the species from Hyp-sipetcs flavalus canipennis.The specific characters of the three new cestodes are described below. 1.Unciunia sinensis sp.nov.Specific diagnosis:Unciunia Skrjabin,1914,with the generic characters.Strobila 9-46mm long (average 27.93mm),1.029 mm in inaximum breadth,with 60-107 prog-lottids.Genital pores alternating irregularly,situated at the anterior 1/3 of lateral margin of each proglottid.Scolex 0.481-0.664 mm by 0.465-0.714 mm (0.567×0.626mm),with rudimentary rostellum,0.033-0.074 mm by 0.022-0.055 mm.Eostel-lar sac 0.144-0.188 mm by 0.055-0.096 mm.Suckers aspinose,0.118-0.199 mm by 0.141-0.215mm.Testes 14-26 in number (average 19) first appear in the posterior region behind ovary.Fully developed testes oval-shaped,0.041-0.074 mm (average 0.052mm) in diameter.Vas deferens in coil,crossing the longitudinal excretory canal.Cirrus pouch spindle-shaped,0.089-0.118 mm by 0.022-0.037 mm (0.101×0.032mm).Cirrus aspinose.Ovary appreciably bilobed,lying in the mid-region of tho proglottid.Bach lobe of fully developed ovary with fine lobules.Poral lobe small,0.081-0.166 mm by 0.044-0.149 mm.Aporal lobe large,0.152-0.296 mm by 0.074-0.149 mm.Vitellaria ovated,located behind ovary,0.041-0.081 mm by 0.030-0.056mm.Uterus sac-like,extending to the lateral field of the gravid proglottid.Egg with three membranes.Egg sac 0.044-0.061 mm by 0.059-0.082 mm,outer embryonic membrane 0.041-0.051 mm by 0.032-0.043 mm.There are two hollow axial filments on two poles of egg.Oncosphere oval,0.026-0.042 mm by 0.030-0.039 mm in diameter.Host:Parus major commixtus Swinhoe.Location:Small intestine.Locality:Foochow and vicinity,Fujian.Type-specimens:Kept in Parasitology Reseaeh Laboratory,Amoy University,Fujian.2.Unciunia falconis sp.nov.Specific diagnosis:Unciunia Skrjabin 1914,with generic characters.Strobila 101-197 mm long,3mm in maximum breadth,with 228-380 proglottids.Genital pore alternating irregularly,situated at the anterior 1/3 of lateral margin of each proglottid.Genital primordia appear in the 31th-58th proglottids.Mature segments appearing in the 196th-280th proglottids,0.514-1.323 mm by 0.830-1.660 mm (average 1.012×1.205mm).Gravid segments 1.171-3.400mm by 1.212-3.000mm (average 1.722×1.524mm).Scolex 0.332-0.465 mm in breadth.Rostellum rudimentary,0.037-0.066 mm.Bostelkr sae muscular,0.148-0.190 mm by 0.055-0.111mm.Suckers aspinose,0.132-0.166 mm by 0.101-0.132mm (average 0.149×0.166mm).Testes first appear in the 152th-170th proglottids,45-63 in number (average 54),0.037-0.093 mm by 0.051-0.089 mm (average 0.072×0.065mm).Cirrus aspinose.Cirrus pouch spindle-shaped,0.093-0.111 mm by 0.055-0.088 mm (average 0.099 X 0.066 mm).Ovary bilobed,pore lobe small,0.133-0.188 mm,by 0.056-0.182 mm,aporal lobe large,0.274-0,830 mm by 0.099-0.299 mm.Uterus sac-like,containing 266-477 eggs.Egg sac oval,0.074-0.108 mm by 0.054-0.076 mm (average 0.087×0.063mm).Outer embryonic membrane 0.070-0.097mm by 0.052-0.074mm (average 0.078×0.058 mm).Inner embryonic membrane 0.054-0.076 mm by 0.041-0.056mm (average 0.062×0.048mm).Oncosphere oval,0.037-0.054mm by 0.033-0.049 mm (average 0.044×0.038 mm).
