Abstract
Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of Baliao(BL 31-34,Eight Bone-Holes)acupoints catgut embedding on slow transit constipation(STC).Methods Sixty STC patients were randomized into treatment group and control group, with 30in each. The treatment group was given Baliao acupoints catgut embedding every two weeks for a total of two times. The control group was given 5mg Mosapride Citrate Tablets orally three times daily for four weeks. The scores of stool character, weekly independent defecation frequency and defecography results were observed in both groups before and after 4-week treatment. The efficacy was compared in both groups. Results The total effective rate was 90%in the treatment group and 86.7%in the control group, with no significant difference between groups(P0.05).The scores of stool character and weekly independent defecation frequency in both groups were significantly increased after treatment(P0.05),but with no significant difference between groups(P0.05).The defecography results showed the residual marker numbers in both groups were significantly decreased in 48hours and 72hours after treatment(P0.05),but with no significant difference between groups(P0.05).Conclusion Baliao acupoints catgut embedding is effective for STC and it can improve stool character, increase intestinal defecation and reduce defecation residue.
