Abstract
Objective To follow up the current state of the preventive and curative effects after reaching the stage goal of elimination of iodine deficiency disorders. Methods Simple random sampling method was used for the selection of 2~3 counties (urban districts) in each of 14 municipalities. In these selected counties (urban districts) all indicators (iodine concentration in salt, urinary iodine concentration, iodine concentration in drinking water, goiter rate, children intelligence quotient and health education) were measured. Results Among the indicators, consuming rate of qualified iodized salt was 90.7%, goiter rate of children aged 8~10 years old was 3.1 %,median urinary iodine was 251.6 μg/L. The mean of children intelligence quotient was 95.6. The IQ proportions below or equal 69 were 4.8%.Conclusions All results showed that salt was adequately iodized and more than 90% of the residents in Guangxi have access to iodized salt.Iodine intake was adequate.
