Abstract

[Objective]To understand the current situation of iodine deficiency disorders in Yongji city, provide basis for making control and prevention measures.[Methods]The goiter rate of residents in the city was investigated. The urinary iodine level of children aged 8-10 years and women aged 18~35 years in 9 towns, iodine content in iodized salt and drinking water were determined.[Results]The goiter rate of residents in the city was 0.02%,the goiter rate for male and female was 0.006% and 0.035% respectively, and the difference was significant(χ2=4.42,P0.05).No goiter patient was found among children aged 8~10 years. In 2008 and 2009,the median urinary iodine of children aged 8~10 years was 226.63 μg/L and 207.8 μg/L respectively, that of women aged 18~35 years was 177.9 μg/L and 164.85 μg/L respectively.375 samples of drinking water were collected in 2008,and the iodine value in 98.67% of samples was less than 10 μg/L.198 samples of drinking water were collected in 2009,and the iodine value in 98.99% of samples was less than 10 μg/L.The qualified rate of iodized salt and consumption rate of qualified iodized salt in 2008 was 95.83%,and that in 2009 was 97.22%.[Conclusion]After salt iodization and health education, the iodine nutrition level of residents in this city is appropriate, and iodine deficiency disorders have been controlled. But relevant departments should pay attention to the flooding of non-iodized salt in remote rural area, especially in junction of counties.
