Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To study the effect of 9-cis retinoic-acid(9-cis-RA) on apoptosis in lung cancer cell line A549. METHODS: A549 was cultured in vitro and the inhibition function of 9-cis-RA on A549 was detected by the MTT method, and the apoptosis of 9-cis-RA on A549 was detected by electron microscopy and FACS technique. RESULTS: 9-cis-RA suppressed the growth and induced the apoptosis in A549 cells. The inhinitory rates increased in time and concentration dependent manner. After incubation for 48 h, the cell apoptosis rates were 7.2% in the 5 μmol/L group and 13.3% in the 10 μmol/L group and the effect had a positive correlation with the concentrations. CONCLUSION: 9-cis-RA can arrest the growth of L78 cells by inducing apoptosis.
