Abstract
Translation equivalence has long been an important issue in modern translation study. The western linguistic translation approach has studied it systematically and greatly put forward the translation study. However,it is also very controversial. This paper summarizes the study on translation equivalence at abroad. It is concluded that translation equivalence does not mean the absolute parallelism between the source text and the target text, but the correspondence on some level and to some degree. The study of translation text cannot ignore the discussion on the relationship between the ST and TT.Equivalence will always be the central topic about it,and an important translation criterion.
