Abstract
[Objective] To evalute the safety and efficacy of transurethral electro-vapor resection of prostate (TUVP) in the treatment of elderly patients with large volume benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). [Methods] The clinical data of 40 large volume BPH cases of elderly patients by TUVP were analysed retrospectively. [Results] 28 in 40 patients (mean age 79.4) were grade Ⅲ and 12 were grade Ⅳ. At the 3 month and 6 month follow up visit, the IPSS of patients dropped from 28.5 before operation to 11.2 and 5.8 respectively; the QOL decreased from 4.4 to 2.6 and 2.1; the Qmax increased from 5.4mL/s to 15.8mL/s and 19.7mL/s; the residual urine volume reduced from 102mL to 43.1mL and 25.0mL. These changes were statistically significant (P 0.01). [Conclusions] TUVP is an effective and safe method for the treatment of elderly patients with large volume benign prostatic hyperplasia.
