Abstract
Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and moxibustion on dysmenorrhea-complicated simple obesity of liver depression and spleen deficiency type. Methods One hundred and two patients with dysmenorrhea resulting from simple obesity of liver depression and spleen deficiency type were treated with combined ear and body acupuncture. The symptoms, signs, obesity indices and dysmenorrhea score were observed in the two groups of patients before and after 3 months of treatment for the assessment of the therapeutic effects. Results The total efficacy rate in dysmenorrhea-complicated obesity was 95.1% after 3 months of acupuncture treatment. The clinical symptom indices were significantly lower in the patients with dysmenorrhea-complicated simple obesity of liver depression and spleen deficiency type after 3 months of treatment than before(P0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture has a good therapeutic effect on dysmenorrhea-complicated simple obesity of liver depression and spleen deficiency type.It produces both weight-reducing and pain-relieving effects. The latter effect is better than the former.
