Study of the relationship between pulse pressure, pulse pressure index and blood pressure

Objective To study the relationship between pulse pressure, pulse pressure index and blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension(EH). Methods 106 patients with EH were divided according to blood pressure level into mild blood pressure group, moderate blood pressure group and high blood pressure group. 62 subjeccts with normal were studied as normal controls. Results The pulse pressure, pulse pressure index in patients with EH were all significantly higher than it in the controls(P0.01). The pulse pressure was significantly higher in moderate and severe EH patients than in the mild(P0.01). The pulse pressure index was significantly higher in moderate EH patients than in the mild and severe(P0.01).Conclusion There is a significant relationship between pulse pressure, pulse pressure index and blood pressure. Pulse pressure, pulse pressure index can offer useful parameters for cardiac function in patients with EH.
