The Comparison of Views on Metaphor between Conversational Implicature Theory and Relevance Theory

Abstract

Both Sperber Wilson's relevance theory and Grice's conversational im plicature theory are the two important pragmatic theories. Though the former der ived from the latter, it has more explanatory advantages than the latter, especi ally on the metaphor research. The two theories have different views on metaphor , but the latter doesn't bear comparison with the former.
