THE CLINICAL ASSESSMENT OF TREATING PEDIATRIC PATIENTS WITH ALLERGIC RHINITIS AND ASTHMA BY SUBLINGUAL IMMUNOTHERAPY

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of sublingual immunotherapy by means of Dermatophagoides farianae drops which treating pediatric patients with allergic rhinitis and asthma due to dust mites.Methods:A controlled open clinical trial was conducted for one year on 67 children with allergic asthma and rhinitis due to dust mites.They were divided into two groups.The SLIT group(n=47) received drug therapy plus sublingual immunotherapy with D.farinae drops,while the controlled group(n=20) received drug therapy only.Scores of asthmatic and(or) rhinitis symptoms were assessed before and after the treatment to analyze the efficacy.Results:After one year,asthmatic and rhinitis symptoms were decreased significantly in both groups(P0.001).And the score of rhinitis symptoms and asthmatic symptoms in the SLIT group decreased significant compared with the controlled group(P0.001).No severe adverse events were reported in the sublingual immunotherapy group.Conclusions:The study showed that sublingual immunotherapy with standardized Dermatophagoides farinae drops was safe and effective in treating pediatric patients with allergic asthma and rhinitis SLIT plus drug therapy can offer more benefits compared with using drug therapy only.
