Abstract
Objective To explore the correlations between up-regulation of COX-2 expression and angiogenesis in ovarian carcinoma. Methods The immunohistochemical expression of COX-2 were examined in eighty cases of ovarian carcinoma, and its contributions to the expression of VEGF and bFGF.Weidner analysis system was used to assess the MVD as a percentage of the endothelial area, and the MVD was assessed using CD34 immunohistochemistry. Results The expression rates of COX-2,VEGF and bFGF were 85.0%(68/80)、78.7%(63/80) and 75.0%(60/80),respectively.The expression rates of VEGF and bFGF were 92.6%(63/68) and 88.2%(60/68) in positive group of COX-2,and VEGF and bFGF were not expressed in negative group of COX-2.Immunohistochemical staining scores of VEGF and bFGF were 17.21±2.81 and 16.21±2.43 respectively in positive group of COX-2 and zero in negative group of COX-2.COX-2 was significantly correlated with VEGF and bFGF.MVD was 54.21±16.61 and 36.21±10.21 in positive and negative group of COX-2 respectively, and COX-2 was significantly correlated with ovarian carcinoma MVD(P0.01).Conclusions Up-regulation of COX-2 expression correlations with tumor angiogenesis in ovarian carcinoma, and it plays an important role in tumor genesis and development of ovarian carcinoma.Synergistic exploring of COX-2,VEGF and bFGF is a useful progress.
