Abstract

OBJECTIVE To investigate the quality of drinking water produced by safe drinking water projects in Beibei,to provide the scientific bases data for the work of rural drinking water improvement.METHODS A survey of water quality was conducted in 42 safe drinking projects from 2008 to 2009 in Beibei.The water samples were collected in dry season(March to April)and rainy season(July to August)and evaluated for aesthetic,microbiologic,chemical and toxicological indexes.RESULTS In the 42 projects,59.5% of all projects' water style were underground water.Water fully treated accounted for 50.0%.In the total amount of 168 samples,qualified rate was 38.09%.The qualified rate of water in 2009 was 54.17%,higher than in 2008(χ2 = 7.36,P﹤0.01).There was no difference for finished water and tap water,the same with dry season and rainy season.The qualified rate of fully treated water was 60.71%,higher than untreated water(χ2 = 36.45,P﹤0.01).Of all the samples,the most unqualified indicator was microbiologic and aesthetic indexes.CONCLUSION The disposal technology of rural water drinking water safety project is not perfect,especially for non-disinfected device.The qualified rate in water quality is relatively low especially microbial index.The government must strength the construction quality of rural drinking water device in order to insure the sanitary safety of rural drinking water.
