Application of Central Venous Catheter in Closed Drainage of Pleural Effusion

Objective To Observe the reliability and clinical significance of central venous catheter in closed drainage of pleural effusion.Methods The closed drainage of pleural effusion was performed in 35 cases of malignant pleural effusion and 11 cases of tuberculosis pleurisy by indwelling central venous catheter.The operating time,hydrothorax evacuating time,catheter retaining time,adverse reactions,obstruction of catheter and secondary infection were observed.Results The operation time of intubations was 3 to 8 minutes,an average of 5.1 minutes;pleural effusion evacuating time was 3 to 12 days,an average of 5.4 days;catheter retention time was 5 to 24 days,an average of 11.5 days;adverse reactions was mild and the incidence rate was low(4.3%);blockage only occurred in 3 cases.The infection of chest or drainage locality did not occurred in all cases.Conclusions Central venous catheter is convenient,safe and effective in closed drainage of pleural effusion.
