Abstract

Objective To explore the expression of phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted on chromosome 10(PTEN) in colorectal carcinoma and its clinical significance. Methods The expression of PTEN was detected by immunohistochemistry SP method in 53 cases of colorectal carcinoma and their pericarcinomatous tissue. Results The positive rate (52.8%) and expression intensity of PTEN in colorectal carcinoma were lower and weaker than these in the pericarcinomatous tissue (100%)(P0.01,P0.05),and the expression level of PTEN was significantly related to the differentiation degree. The poorer the differentiation of colorectal carcinoma, the weaker the expression of PTEN protein. The positive rate were relative to lymphaden metastasis and clinical Dukes stage(P0.01,P0.05).Conclusion The abnormal expression of PTEN may play an important role in gensis and development of colorectal carcinoma, the expression level of PTEN may be a molecular-biological indicator in forecasting the progress and prognosis of colorectal carcinoma.
