Abstract
The imperial examination system first started in the Tang dynasty,and,as a new phenomenon,it was vigorous and promising in its ow n right.Appointment of officials depended on the calligraphic tests.Calligraphy was at its best in the Tang dynasty and was closely related to imperial examinat ions and appointment of officials.The imperial examination system effectively pr omoted the development of calligraphic art.
