Abstract
No one yet knows exactly when the imperial examination of the Tang Dynasty took place. Based on a textual research of the application dates of the candidates at the county and provincial levels, the author concludes that candidate registration at the provincial level was completed in October and thus the national-level imperial examination must take place between November and March of the following year.
