Treatment of groin hernia with mesh plug tension-free hernia repair in the basic hospital

Objective To aprroach the advantages and summarize the experience of mesh-plug tension-free hernia repair and the possibility of carrying it out in the basic hospitals.Methods The mesh plug tension-free hernia repair was administered in 40 patients of groin hernia with the Bard Mesh Perfix plug offered by Bard Company in U.S.A. The opration time,post-operative pain,patient's recovery ability,complication and recurrence rate were analysized retrospectively. Results The average operation time was 46 minutes. The patients could move within 6 hours of the end of the operation. Post operative pain lasted about 2-3 days. One case had retention of urine.None had recurrance. Conclusions Bard Mesh-Perfix Plug has good tissue-compatibility ,capability of anti-infection and no rejection. It is ideal material for herna repair. The Mesh Plug tesion-free hernia repair is easy to be performed and it has an advantage of minor trauma,quick recovery and lower recurrance. It is suitable to carry it out in the basic hospitals. But the high expense is the main factor to prevent it from bing widely carrying out.
