Abstract

Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of serum total bile acid(TBA) determination in infantile hepatitis syndrome. Methods Serum TBA and other liver function related items were measured by automatic enzymatic assay techniques in 52 children with infantile hepatitis syndrome(disease group) and 60 healthy infants(control group). Results The frequency of serum TBA value presented skewness distribution in healthy control group. After logarithm transformation, the normality D-test displayed the logarithm normal distribution. In control group, the range of serum TBA was 0-11.6 μmol/L.TBA level was abnormal in 90.4% patients and the value range was 1.1-239.6 μmol/L.The difference was significant between the two groups(P0.05).In disease group, the TBA level was closely related to ALP,DBIL and γ-GT,and the sensitivity and specificity of TBA were superior to the other conventional indice. Conclusion Serum TBA determination plays an important role in diagnosis, therapeutic effect observation and prognosis evaluation of infantile hepatitis syndrome.
