Abstract
China aspires to be recognized as a market economy for a number of reasons. First, the country is now a market economy. Second, the accession to the WTO has been significant for China to receive fair treatment in international trade. Third, the negation of China's market economy status will do harm to the country's social and economic development now that China's economy heavily relies on international trade. Fourth, non-market economy is determined by the problem of substitute country of the cost value. After China's accession to the WTO, the US and the EU are reluctant to admit its market economy status. This is more than a trade issue. There is a political side. Our attitude shall be to treat the issue with calmness and aggressiveness. Our purpose is not only to get more and better conditions for Chinese businesses in international markets but also to make China a maturer market economy.
