Abstract

Objective The aim is to conclude the incidence of C-shaped root canal of mandibular second molars by observing the dental root cross sections sliced by the oral hard tissue cutter. Methods Collect 386 pieces of mandibular second molars, and then cross cut them from the pulp floor consecutively every other 0.5 mm by oral hard tissue cutter and observe the morphology of the root canals under microscope. Results Among the 386 pieces of mandibular second molars,163 pieces are C-shaped,accounting for 42.23% of the whole. Conclusion There exists high incidence of C-shaped root canal of mandibular second molars and they are morphologically diverse;therefore, clinical doctors should pay close attention during the root canal treatment.
