Abstract

Acute cerebral i schemia/reper-fusion injury of rat was produced by 4-vessel occlusion.Ginsenosides 100 mg/kg iv 30 min before ischemia significantly improved brain electrical activity and SOD ac-tivity reduced brain edema and suppressed the rise of lipid peroxides and LDH release in brain after 40 min ischemia/reperfusion.These improvements indicate that ginseno-sides have protective effect on cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury probably by inhibiting free radicals and subsequent lipid peroxidation.
