Abstract

Objective To investigate atorvastatin calcium for hypertension and non-lipid treatment. Methods Eighty-six cases of hypertension were randomly divided into study group(43 cases) and control group(43 cases). The control group received enalapril and metoprolol treatment, patients in study group also received 10 mg of atorvastatin calcium besides enalapril and metoprolol. After 8 weeks' treatment, changes in blood pressure,NO,flow-mediated vasodilation(FMD),and BNP values in the two groups were compared. Results Blood pressure of patients decreased to normal levels in both groups and there was no significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).Compared with the measurements before treatment,NO and FMD values were significantly increased,BNP was significantly decreased after treatment in study group(P0.05);no significant change was found in NO,FMD and BNP values after treatment in control group(P0.05).Conclusion Atorvastatin calcium can improve endothelial function and prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in patients with hypertension.
