Water Model Experiment on 6-strand Billet Tundish Flow Field Optimization

Abstract

Based on principle of similarity, the water is used to simulate the flow of molten steel to study the flow field in the tundish. Designed several schemes of the inner shape of the tundish. Then Did water model experiments for all the schemes. Collected the data by computer. The RTD curves drawn by the data of computer and photographs origined from the experiments with ink as its tracer are used to compare to get the optimizal scheme. The parameters of the optimazed tundish is resonable: the average residence time is relatively longer, reached to 459,380,374 s under the different velocity magnitude, and at the same time, the dead volume is the relatively smaller, it reached to 15.1%. So the flow field of the tundish is optimized.
