The Expression and Significance of Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen(PCNA) in Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia and Invasive Carcinoma

【Objective】To investigate the expression and significance of PCNA in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and invasive carinoma.【Methods】Expression of PCNA was retrospectively studied with immunohistochemistry in paraffin sections from 67 cervical carcinoma,114 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN) and 27 normal cervical tissue.【Results】The PCNA expression was positive in 59 of 67(88.1%)cervical cancer patients,in 4 of 27(14.8%) normal cervical tissues and in 61 of 114(53.5%) CIN, the difference among them was statistically significant(χ2 =46.791,P0.05).So the high expression of PCNA was a dangerous factor for cervical carcinogenesis and the status of clinicopathologic features such as TNM staging.Differentiation was correlated with the expression of PCNA,and the histology of the cervical cancer was not correlated with the expression of PCNA.In the different CIN status after LEEP treantment 3 years,the difference of PCNA express in the CIN while treated by LEEP was signifficant(χ2=27.159,P0.05).【Conclusion】PCNA plays a key role in carcinogenesis of cervical cancer and positive expression of PCNA gene may be used as a valuable susceptible biomarker of human cervical cancers,The high expression of PCNA in CIN may be an indicator for CIN to development to cancer.
