A New Approach to Oral English Teaching

With the rapid development of society and the influence of global economy,English competence becomes one of the most important factors for the assessment of college graduates.So how to develop the competence of oral communication for non-English-major students is the key to English teaching at the present time.As we all know,the traditional English teaching model stresses reading and writing,while oral teaching now should be paid more attention to as well as well-arranged in all the English teaching plan.Therefore,a research and reform of oral English teaching should be viewed as the first step of the general reform of English teaching.This paper,aiming at the weakness of competence of non-English-major students,and based on the polls among college students and oral examination for the two-different-level students who are in the same grade but in different classes,analyses the reasons why the weakness of competence is caused.And it also shows us,as English teachers teaching students with poor English,how to apply a new approach to oral English teaching to our classroom teaching with a view to helping our college students to develop English communicative competence.
