Abstract
The methyl benzoate is synthesized based on benzoic acid and methyl alcohol in the presence of solid Ti(SO 4) 2 as catalyst. The factors such as amount of catalyst, reaction time and the mole ratio of alcohol to acid influencing on yield of ester are investigated. Experiments show that optimum reaction conditions are as follows: reaction temperature is 65~75℃, dosage of catalyst is 8 %(based on mass fraction of benzoic acid), reaction time is 3 h and the ratio of alcohol to acid is 10∶1, the yield of final ester would be reached 93%.
