Application of Meropenem in patients with acute leukemia and complicated infections

Objective:To evaluate the clinical effectiveness and safety of Meropenem in patients with acute leukemia and infections.Method:A randomized study was conducted in 84 patients with acute leukemia and bacterial infections. They were divided to Meropenem group and Imipenem/Cilastatin group. Result:The cure rate,effective rate and bacterial clearance rate in Meropenem group were 66.7%,85.7% and 81.3% respectively,while 64.3%,83.3% and 73.3% respectively in Imipenem/Cilastatin group. The incidence of side effect in Meropenem group was 9.5% (4/42).Conclusion:Meropenem has characteristics to treat patients suffered from acute leukemia combined with infection rapidly and obviously. Meropenem is significantly effect and safe in the treatment of acute leukemia with infections. Its efficacy and adverse reaction are similar to that of Imipenem/cilastatin.
