Abstract
Aim To study the therapeutic effects of Oxymatrine(OM) on adjuvant arthritis(AA) rats as well as its possible mechanisms. Methods Freund’s complete adjuvant(FCA) was used to induce AA on rats.Noninjected hind paw volumes and arthritis index (AI) of rats were measured,HE staining showed the pathological changes in joints of rats, and the concentration of interleukin-1(IL-1),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) in plasma was analyzed by radioimmunoasy(RIA) kits. Results Therapeutic treatment of OM (60,120 mg.kg-1) suppressed significantly the secondary paw swelling, improved the pathological damage on arthritis and decreased IL-1β,TNF-α level. Conclusion OM has the protective effect on AA rats, whose mechanism might be related with inhibiting the level of IL-1β,TNF-α.
