Abstract

Objective: To investigate the protective effects of the ethanolic extract from Potentilla freyniana Bornm. (PB) on mice acute hepatic injury induced by CCl 4.Methods:Mice were administrated with the ethanolic extract from Potentilla freyniana Bornm., ig.50 g·kg -1 ,25 g·kg -1 ,12.5 g·kg -1 daily for 7 d respectively after the hepatic injury was induced by ip. 10 ml·kg -1 0.1% carbon tetrachloride. After 16 h,serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT and AST) activity were measured, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) in hepatic mitochondria was detected. Results:The ethanolic extract from PB significantly reduced the level of serum ALT and AST, and inhibited lipoperoxidation in hepatic mitochondria. Conclusion: Potentilla freyniana Bornm. showed protective effects on mice acute hepatic injury.
