Abstract

Objective To investigate the changes and analyze the clinical significance of platelet parameter in child patients with pneumonia caused by microbe, virus and mycoplasma. Methods The medical records of 180 child patients(including 62 cases of severe pneumonia,118 cases of mild pneumonia) with microbial, viral and mycoplasma pneumonia from December 2010 to March 2011 were retrospectively reviewed(including 60 cases of microbial pneumonia,60 cases of viral pneumonia and 60 cases of mycoplasma pneumonia). The changes of platelet parameters such as platelet count(PLT),platelet hematocrit(PCT),mean platelet volume(MPV) and platelet distribution width(PDW) in acute stage and in convalescence stage of patients with pneumonia were observed and compared with 50 cases normal control group. Results The platelet parameters of microbial pneumonia group, viral pneumonia group and mycoplasma pneumonia group were significantly higher than those of normal control group(P0.01).The platelet parameters of microbial pneumonia group were significantly higher than those of viral pneumonia group and mycoplasma pneumonia group(P0.05).The platelet parameters of severe pneumonia group were significantly higher than those of mild pneumonia group in acute stage(P0.05),but they were significantly higher than those of normal control group. The platelet parameters of both severe pneumonia group and mild pneumonia group in convalescence stage were significantly decreased and there were no significant difference from normal control group. Conclusion The abnormality of the amount and function of platelet is the common pathological process of children pneumonia, and it is more prone to microbial pneumonia, thus the changes of platelet parameter maybe reference marker for predicting the patients with pneumonia and accessing the severity.
