Amniotic membrane transplantation in the treatment of severe ocular alkali burn

Objective To evaluate the effect of the severe ocular burn treated by amniotic membrane transplantation.Methods 29 eyes of 23 patients were treated with amniotic membrane transplantation.Results In the 29 eyes of 23 cases,25 eyes were successfully reconstructed,the amniotic membrane fixed up well after the operation,the inflammation of the cornea were alleviated and the cornea-conjunctiva gradually cicatrized.The amniotic membrane in 4 eyes was broken up and dissolved 4-10 days after the operation.Conclusion The amniotic membrane transplantation can make the severe alkaline burned cornea epithelization and prevent further atrophy,dissolution and reduce neovascularization.But to those cases with severe cornea edema and opacity,the effect of the amniotic membrane transplantation is not effective.
