Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of preserved amniotic membrane transplantation for severe ocular alkali burn at early stage. Methods 22 patients (22 eyes) who had severe alkali burn were treated with amniotic membrane transplantation. All patients were followed-up for 3 -12 months. Results Ocular inflammation was controlled in 7 days after surgery. There were corneal macula in 14 eyes and corneal transparency in 4 eyes, toal opacity in 4 eyes. All eye balls were saved. Symblepharon occurred in 2 eyes. Conclusion The transplantation of preserved amniotic membrane in a valuable method for the treatment of early severe ocular alkali burn.
