Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical and EM G features in patients with Guillain Barre syndrome (GBS). Methods Routine examinations of nerve conduction velocity and electromyography were applied on various nerves and muscles of 21 GBS patients. Results Of all the nerves detected, the rate of abnormal motor ne rve conduction velocity was 62.0%; abnormal F wave, 69.0%; decease of sensory ne rve conduction velocity, 17.5%; and the denervation of conduction, 8.0%; and d ecrease of sensory nerve action potential amplitude, 14.1%. Of the muscles che cked, the rate of spontaneous potentials was 71.2% ; single multiple unite potentials of massive contraction, 42.4%; and decrease of MUP amplitude, 53.0%. Conclusion Electromyogram is a reliable means to diagnose GBS.
