Abstract

Objective To explor the immunological status of aplastic anemia (AA) and the role of interleukin-8 (IL-8) and interferon-α(IFN-α) in the pathogenesis of AA. Methods Serum levels of IL-8 and IFN-α in 50 patients and 30 normal controls were measured by sandwith enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results The levels of IL-8 and IFN-α increased significantly in AA, acute AA (AAA) and chronic AA (CAA) patients than in normal controls (P0.05 or P0.01), and the IL-8 and IFN-α levels in AAA group were much higher than those in CAA group (P0.01). The serum level of IL-8 was positively related to IFN-α in AA group (r=0.703,P0.01). Conclusion There are immunological disorders in patients with AA and the overproduction of IL-8 and IFN-α might be involved in the immunopathogenesis of AA.
