Explanatory Power of Relevance Theory in Translation Studies

The inspiration of relevance theory to translation study is expounded.It is pointed out that as a theory of language communication,relevance theory depicts the inherent properties of language communication and culture and shows great explanatory power in translation practice which falls into the category of cross-cultural communication.The translator should highlight the original cognitive contextual effect and establish the optimal relevance between the translation and original text,thus make the translation converge to the original as much as possible.
