Analysis of dysuria and urinary retention after transurethral prostatectomy

Objective: To analyze the causes of dysuria and urinary retention after transurethral prostatectomy(TURP) and the treatment.Methods: Twenty one cases of dysuria or urinary retention after TURP were analyzed.Results: Acute urethral edema in 4 cases,remaining of prostatic tissue in 2 cases,recurrence of benign prostate hyperplasia in 7 cases,urethral stricture in 2 cases,bladder neck contracture in 2 cases and acontractile detrusor in 4 cases.Conclusions: The causes of dysuria or urinary retention after TURP includes acute urethral edema,remaining of prostatic tissue,recurrence of benign prostate hyperplasia,urethral stricture,bladder neck contracture,acontractile detrusorand,and so on.Improving the operating technique and urodynamic examination has important meaning to reduce the occurring of dysuria after TURP and predict the effect.
