Ecogeographic Distribution and Preservation of Rare Mammals in Chongqing Municipality

Up to now 117 species of mammals have been identified in Chongqing Municipality.Among them,twenty nine species are the key preserved rare mammals.Their ecogeographic distrbution can be delineated as follows.Ten rare mammals live in plain and hilly parts of central Sichuan Basin,of which 1 has diffused from the palaearctic into the Indo Malayan Regions and the rest are innate in the Indo Malayan Regions.Twenty onge rare mammals are found in low mountains and medium high mountains at the northeastern edge of the Sichuan Basin,of which 2 belong to the papaearctic realm,19 to the oriental realm.There are 23 rare mammals in low montains and medium high mountains at the southeastern edge of the Sichuan Basin,of which 2 belong to the palaearctic realm and the others to the oriental realm.There have been 33 ratified and founded natural reserves.The area of natural reserves is 7 301.53 square kilometers.
