Abstract

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of compound mannitol and 20% manitol injection in the treatment of intracranial hypertension. Methods Thirty-four intracranial hypertension patients were randomly assigned to two groups, 17 patients were given compound mannitol injection, while 17 patients were given 20% mannitol injection. Both drugs were given by intravenous infusion with same dosage and duration. Scores of symptoms were performed before and after the treatment in all of the patients. Curative effects were evaluated with the different grades, conspicuous remission, middle, weak and inefficacy. Results The scores of symptoms of the two groups were significantly decreased after the treatment (P0.05), while no significant difference was detected between groups (P0.05). The adverse reactions to both drugs were similiar, including increase of blood urea nitrogen, fever and dizziness, etc. Conclusion The result suggested that both compound mannitol and 20% mannitol injection had the same efficacy and safety for the treatment of intracranial hypertension.
