Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of prokinetics domperidone combined with hydrotalcid on bile reflux gastritis and 24 hour intragastric bile concentration. Methods Twenty five cases of bile reflux gastritis were confirmed by 24 hours bile monitoring. The severity of the symptoms including abdominal pain, distention, nausea and vomiting was recorded and evaluated. Bile was investigated before and after 2 and 4 weeks treatment with domperidone 10 mg three times a day combined with hydrotalcid 0.5 g three times a day. Intragastric 24 hours bile monitoring was also reexamined after 4 weeks treatment. Results The severity of all the four symptoms significantly decreased after 2 weeks treatment (P0.05). The severity of abdominal pain and distention further decreased after 4 weeks treatment (P0.01). The total fraction time of bile decreased from (30.4±20.2)% to (15.6±6.6)% (P0.01) and the number of bile reflux decreased from (104.9±57.6) to (50.8±19.6) (P0.01).Conclusion Domperidone combined with hydrotalcid can relieve the symptoms of bile reflux gastritis and decreased the index of 24 h intragastric bile monitering. Domperidone combined with hydrotalcid is an effective treatment program for bile reflux gastritis.
