Abstract
The economic inducement of the conversion of farmland into nonagricultural land was analyzed based on the classical theory of bid rent and marginal returns-cost.It shows that there exists lower farmland comparative benefits and expropriation cost;also the external benefits of farmland conversion are not being realized. The countermeasures of farmland protection were put forward from theoretical reasoning: farmland expropriation cost should be increased;ecological value and social value should be included in farmland conversion price;and the property of farmland external benefits which owned by peasants should be enacted and transferred.
