Abstract

Objective:To determine the clinical effect of a recently developed silicon-based root canal filling material(GuttaFlow). Methods:Ninty teeth with chronic periapical disease/ chronic puplpitis were divided into 2 groups(n=45).The root canals were instrumented and obturated with cold laterally compacted gutta-percha and Cortisomo sealer(group 1),and with Gutta-Flow technique(group 2).The patients were recalled and observed according to the clincical symptom and radiography after 1 week and 8 months to 1.5 year(average 1 year). Results:Int the first week, there were no significant differences of clinical symptom between the 2 groups. After 1 year there were no significant differences between Gutta-Flow and Cortisomo sealer techniques.Conclusion:Gutta-Flow technique showed a similar sealing ability to Cortisomo sealer and can be acceptable for root canal filling, but the long term clinical result is needed to be investigated.
