Expression of survivin in leukemia and its clinical significance

Abstract
Objective To explore the expression of survivin in leukemia and its clinical significance.MethodsExpression of survivin in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was detected in 18 leukemia patients and 10 normal controls using Western blotting.ResultsExpression of survivin was positive in 13 of 18 leukemia patients,but negative in all of 10 normal controls.The expression of survivin was significantly higher in patients with acute nonlymphocytic leukemia than that in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia,and it was also higher in patients with WBC6.0×109 than that in patients with WBC6.0×109(P0.05).The survivin expression had no significant difference in patients with different age,sex,acute/chronic leukemia,primary/relapse(P0.05).ConclusionThe survivin could be selectively expressed in leukemia cells,which indicates that expression of survivin gene may be related to the pathogenesis of leukemia.
