Imperial garden "Shanglin" in the Eastern Han Dynasty

Abstract
In the Eastern Han Dynasty, considerable imperial gardens were built in Luoyang, of which Shanglin garden is the most remarkable one both in size and function. At that time, these imperial gardens were the most im- portant part of the sightseeing and embodied the people's notion of nature and ecology. On discussing the economic life and cultural history of Luoyang in the Eastern Han Dynasty, we should attach an importance to its ecological and environmental background.
