Expression and clinical significance of HER2 in gastric carcinoma and their prognostic value

Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of HER2 in gastric carcinoma.Methods The expression of HER2 in the tumor tissue from 90 patients with gastric carcinoma was examined by immunohistochemically method.The relationship between HER2 expression and the clinical pathologic parameters was analyzed.Results(1) The positive rates of HER2 in gastric carcinoma was 14.4%(13/90).(2) The expression of HER2 was no related with gender and nationality.(3) The expression of HER2 was more frequently detected in the age ≥60 than in the age 60(P0.05).The expression of HER2 was more frequently detected in the low differentiation than in the high differentiation(P0.05).The expression of HER2 was more frequently detected in the Ⅲ and Ⅳ stage than in the Ⅰ and Ⅱ stage(P0.05).The expression of HER2 was more frequently detected in the gastric carcinoma with regional lymph metastasis than without regional lymph metastasis(P0.05).The expression of HER2 was more frequently detected in gastric cancer with carcinoma diameter ≥5 cm than that with carcinoma diameter 5 cm(P0.05).The expression of HER2 was significantly correlated with the clinicopathological factors such as diameter,differentiation,stage,and regional lymph metastasis.(4) The expression of HER2 was related with the survival time of the patients of gastric cancer(P0.05).Conclusion Determination of the expression of HER2 in gastric carcinoma tissues maybe helpful to determine the prognosis,guide the treatment for the patients.
