Abstract

Objective To observe the expression of Galectin-1(Gal-1) in gastric cancer and analyze its effect on the angiogenesis of gastric cancer. Methods Real time quantitative RT-PCR technology and immunohistochemistry method were used to detect the expression of Gal-1 and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and microvessel density(MVD) in gastric cancer tissues. Results The expression of Gal-1 and VEGF and MVD in gastric cancer were significantly higher than those in tissues in the surgical margin(P0.05).There were significant correlation between the expression of Gal-1,VEGF and MVD in gastric cancer and depth of primary tumor invasion,TNM stage and lymph node metastasis(P0.05).The expression of Gal-1 and VEGF was positively correlated with MVD in gastric cancer tissues(P0.05).Conclusion Gal-1 plays a role in tumor progress by promoting angiogenesis of gastric cancer, which can be used to evaluate the progress and prognosis in gastric cancer.
