Expression of VEGF-C and VEGF-D in gastric carcinoma and relationship with microvessel density

Abstract
Objective:To explore the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor C and D in gastric cancer and its relationship with tumor angiogenesis and lymph node metastasis.Methods:Immunohistochemistry(SP) was used to detect the expression of VEGF-C and VEGF-D protein in 30 samples of gastric cancer tissue and 30 cases of normal gastric tissue.The microvessel density(MVD) was calculated.Results:The VEGF-C and VEGF-D positive expression rate in gastric cancer tissue was significantly higher than normal gastric tissues(p0.01).In gastric cancer group,the VEGF-C and VEGF-D expression of patients with lymph node metastasis group were significantly different from those without(p0.05).MVD in gastric carcinoma group was significantly higher than the normal gastric tissues group(p0.01),and the MVD of lymph node metastasis group was significantly higher than that of the un-transfer group(p0.01).MVD was highly correlated with VEGF-C of the protein in gastric carcinoma(r = 0.735,p0.05),and positively correlated with VEGF-D of the protein in gastric cancer tissues(r = 0.623,p0.05).Conclusion:The high expression of VEGF-C and VEGF-D in gastric cancer is closely related with tumor angiogenesis and lymph node metastasis.It can serve as the important reference indicator to assess the prognosis of gastric cancer patients.
