Ahmed valve implantation for neovascular glaucoma.

Abstract

Objective To discuss the effect and safety of Ahmed valve implantation in neovascular glaucoma.Methods The Ahmed glaucoma valve devices were implanted in 32 eyes(32 cases)of neovascular glaucoma caused by retinal vascular diseases.The criteria for succes was postoperative intraocular pressure between 21 mmHg and 8 mmHg and maintenance of vision postoperatively.Follow-up was averaged 14 months.Results success rate of operation was 71.87%.The IOP was decreased from preoperative(54.32±15.48) mmHg to postoperative(19.55±5.76)mmHg.Major complications:early postoperative hypotony,shallow anterior chamber,obstruction of the tube,hyphema.Conclusion Ahmed valve implantation is an effective method to treat neovascular glaucoma.
