Observation on the long-term effect of the Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation for neovascular glaucoma

Objective To observe the long-term effect of Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation for neovascular glaucoma.Methods 32 cases(32eyes) with neovascular glaucoma were treated by Ahmed glaucoma valve device.The success standard of glaucoma being 6 mm Hg≤intracular pressure≥21 mm Hg.Results The total success rate was 81.25%。Follow-up was 3～36 months,the average IOP decreased from the preoperative 54.66±9.30 mm Hg to the postoperation 17.30±6.70 mm Hg.In 8 eyas rubeosis iridis had disappeared after surgery controlled the intraocular pressure bringing it to normal levels.The complication caused by the operation included 10 eyas(31.25%) had early hypotony,the postoperative shallow chamber in 8 eye(25.0%),the hyphema in 1 eye(3.12%),the choroidal detachment in 2 eyes(6.25%).The postoperation visual acuity has no change.Conclusion Ahmed glaucoma valve(AGV) implantation surgery may be effective and safe for treating neovascular glaucoma.
