Abstract

Objective:To observe the effects of the extract of Ginkgo Biloba(EGB) on the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP) of the astrocyte in focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury rats. Methods:A rat middle cerebral ischemia/reperfusion(I/R) injury model was established by using the suture emboli method. The GFAP expression was analyzed by Metamoph analysis system and the neural functional damage in differerent times was observed. Results:The recovery of the neural functional damage was better in EGB group than that in I/R group. The GFAP expression was found at 24h after reperfusion and at 2h after ischemia, reaching a maximum of 72h in I/R groups.EGB could inhibit high expression of GFAP in EGB groups. Conclusion:EGB has inhibitory action on activated astrocytes, which may be one of mechanisms to protect neurons.
